Personal training

How to choose a personal trainer in Highgate

A good trainer should make your week easier, not harder. Here is what to look for, and what to ask, before you sign up.

Start with your goal

Write down what you want in one sentence: lose a stone, deadlift your body weight, get back into shape after an injury. A trainer should be able to explain how they would get you there.

Check qualifications and experience

In the UK, look for a Level 3 personal training qualification and insurance. Ask how long they have coached and who they usually work with. Experience with people like you matters more than impressive social media.

Ask how they measure progress

Weight on the scales is only one number. Good trainers track strength, body measurements or body composition, and review them with you every few weeks.

Look at the space

A busy gym floor can mean waiting for kit and training in front of strangers. A private studio gives you full attention and equipment ready when you are.

Make sure it fits your week

Early mornings, lunchtimes or evenings: the best plan is the one you can keep. Ask about session times, check-ins between sessions and what happens if you travel.

Book a consultation first

Any trainer worth paying will offer a conversation before you commit. At The Highgate House the first consultation is free, so you can see the studio and ask everything above.
